Didactic interpretation of the novel Meta
Lacinová, Kristina ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the position of the novel Meta within the contemporary Czech literary scene, its analysis, interpretation from a genre and narratological point of view, and didactic potential. First of all, I deal with the general concept of popular and fantastic literature, its potential significance in teaching and the book categories of young adult and new adult, as the researched novel Meta falls under these genres and categories. I place the novel in the context of Czech and world fantasy literature and present how it is perceived by literary criticism. The main goal of the thesis is to capture the didactic potential of the novel and to demonstrate the wide possibilities of its use in teaching literature. Structural analysis and interpretation of themes and ideas will be used for this purpose. With this detailed literary analysis, I want to prove that the novel Meta should not be viewed only as popular literature without deeper ideas, but that it could differ in its construction, themes and overall meaning from the majority of modern novels for youth and young adults. Not only does Meta provide a powerful reading experience, from a literary point of view the text is constructed of interesting narrative processes, fragmented composition and offers a critical view of today's...
Ancient Mythology in the Trilogy Starcrossed of Josephina Angelini
Roudná, Karolína ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
This Bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of Ancient Mythology in the Starcrossed Trilogy of Josephina Angelini. The inspiration by ancient Greek mythology is evident throughout the series, as it's practically a transposition of the Trojan War into 21st century context. The characters are reincarnated mythical heroes of the Trojan War. The thesis contains a section dedicated to ancient Greek myths in general. The main goal of the thesis is to encapsulate all similarities, differences and elements received from the ancient Greek originals. The author accentuates the need for glossaries added into works with ancient Greek themes, since a reader who is not familiar with these might be rather confused by their adaptation in a completely different storyline. To achieve the abovementioned goal, the thesis provides literary-scientific context, definitions of key concepts, analysis of the narrator, composition, time space etc. Chapters containing transcribed interviews with book influencers provide readers' reception of the Starcrossed series on Czech literary scene and abroad. The author has performed analysis of the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini via comparing the series to, above all, Homer's Iliad. These works are further supplemented by literature on ancient Greek mythology and literary...
Integration of Children from Institutional Care to Independent Life
KREJČOVÁ, Kateřina
Leaving institutional care is an important milestone for young adults. After leaving the institute, they may find themselves completely on the fringes of society. Therefore, this work deals with the life of young adults after the end of institutional education. It maps their steps after several years of independent living. The work deals with the issue of completion of institutional education and subsequent independent life of young adults. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out how young adults are prepared for this transition to independent living. The work also finds out how the integration process is doing and what tools are used to facilitate it. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts. The first concept is a social worker. It is presented here in all the forms that a young adult may encounter when leaving institutional care. Institutional education is defined here. Its individual types and divisions. Furthermore, the work defines the target group of young adults. In a separate chapter, the work deals with the children's home and the phase of leaving the facility with regard to the goal of the work. Some projects aimed at supporting the integration of children from institutional care into independent living are mapped here. Within the research, a qualitative method of secondary analysis of documents of young adults who left institutional care was chosen. This analysis is intended to show the success of young adults in independent living. The work presents the current form of their lives. The research results show involvement in the project. It also includes the evaluation of knowledge after completing a project that is to help with independent living. Research shows that, despite the equal opportunities that the children's home tried to prepare for children during their years in institutional care, everyone took a separate life differently. It is obvious that it depends not only on the possibilities and chances, but also on the personal attitude of each young adult, his habits and the background from which he comes to institutional education. Despite the individual approach and respect for the needs of individual young adults, facilities and special program staff, not every young adult will be able to start living a successful and satisfied life after leaving the children's home.

Finkousová, Andrea ; Valentová, Hana (advisor) ; Presslerová, Pavla (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of posttraumatic growth in regards of death of a close person. It focuses on young adults, who have experienced death of a relative within their adolescence and adulthood, whom they have been in a close relationship with (a parent, grandparent). The purpose of the thesis is to detect the occurence of the posttraumatic growth in nine young adults and to determine in which areas and how does the posttraumatic growth manifest. Furthermore, to compare the outcomes with the concepts of Tadeschi and Calhoun, Janoff-Bulman and with "the model of the battle" used in the dissertation work of Hana Valentová. The theoretical part is dedicated to description of the theme of death of a loved one and to the narration of posttraumatic growth, its definition, models and the factors of infuence. The empirical part of the work uses qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with nine respondents and subsequent content analysis using open coding. The analysis has revealed seven main areas of posttraumatic growth: the area of relationships, ability to trust in the midst of a crisis situation, spiritual growth, professional direction, reconstruction of the relationship with self, the value of life and new possibilities. Within the research a few variables have...

Koutská, Iva ; Dvořák, Bohuslav (referee)
Univerzita Karlova Pedagogická fakulta Katedra anglického jazyka a literatury RIGORÓZNÍ PRÁCE ABSTRAKT V ANGLICKÉM JAZYCE Age-related variables in ELT training Příprava učitelů anglického jazyka pro různé věkové skupiny Mgr. Iva Koutská, Ph.D. Studijní program: Učitelství pro střední školy Studijní obor: Učitelství všeobecně vzdělávacích předmětů pro základní školy a střední školy - anglický jazyk 2020 Abstract ELT training has a long tradition in the Czech Republic, however one issue is still underestimated in Pre/In-service ELT training, and that is ELT training for different age groups. The ELT programmes are oriented at elementary (i.e. primary school kids and lower secondary) and secondary (i.e. upper secondary) school pupils. The typical Czech graduates are well- educated and prepared to teach English to the age-group 6-19. However, the number of English Language teachers teaching pre-primary kids or adults and older adults is increasing every day, and general adult education training and general pre-primary education training is not interconnected with ELT training courses in any way. In the theoretical part, the text shows on the current demographical situation of the Czech Republic that the percentage of the population ELT training programmes are oriented at is very small. Secondly, the text shows...
Posttraumatic Growth in Adolescents and Young Adults
Valentová, Hana ; Kučera, Miloš (advisor) ; Vágnerová, Marie (referee) ; Bartošová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis focuses on posttraumatic growth in adolescents and young adults. The subject of the research is finding and tracking reactions and changes that emerge after a specific stimulus - an existentially experienced trauma, where at the core is realizing the threat of life and afterwards thinking about one's own death. The theoretical part deals with psychological and philosophical sources of current concepts of post-traumatic growth. These sources support our assumption that for the specific course of post-traumatic reactions and changes the subject category or objective severity of events is not relevant. It is the respondents own perception of a life threat. We also deal with a particular PTG model by Tedeschi and Calhoun, whose concept of changes after a major life event was chosen as the starting point for our research and whose PTGI questionnaire is used in the quantitative part. In the empirical part we chose mixed research design. First, a quantitative part of the research was carried out, involving 407 respondents aged 17-25. The aim of this part was to determine the rate of post-traumatic growth and to demonstrate that perceived life threats occur among respondents across all event categories. The personal perception of a life threat will result into a higher score achieved in both...
Mumps among adolescents and young adults.
BÖHMOVÁ, Monika
Objectives of the work The aim of the work was to determine the course of mumps in adolescents and young adults and to map the specifics of nursing care in adolescents and young adults from the point of view of nurses of general practitioners. The following research questions have been chosen: What was the course of mumps in adolescents and young adults? What are the specifics of nursing care in adolescents and young adults from the point of view of nurses of general practitioners? Methods used To supply the necessary information was elected qualitative research using in-depth interviews with patients who have had mumps and nurses working with general practitioners for adults or children and adolescents. Interviews were captured by a recorder, recorded on the phone or written, and processed by direct transcription. Results The rewritten interviews were subjected to detailed analysis by open coding, using the paper and pencil method. From the data analysis, a total of six categories were formed, divided into two groups: Nurse interviews and Interviews with patients with mumps. Categories from interviews with nurses are: Vaccination, Measures in mumps, Mumps course according to nurses. The categories of interviews with mumps patients are: Collaboration with medical staff, Patient information and vaccine used, and Mumps course in patients with mumps. The individual categories are assigned subcategories, which are encoded to important information and all are included and illustrated in the various schemes. Conclusion From interviews with respondents, we found out how mumps had progressed by adolescents and young adults. It was found that half the respondents had more serious complications, but without lasting consequences, just in one case, the hearing remained impaired, the other serious complications after the cure disappeared. For nurses the result showed what are the specifics of nursing care in adolescents and young adults from the point of view of nurses practitioners. In the main issue, all nurses were oriented correctly. We have found that nurses have a minimum of experience with this disease because they have encountered it sporadically in their practice, and they know it only theoretically, although the incidence of mumps has increased in recent years and nurses should gain more experience. This finding may result in insufficient awareness of compliance with all treatment measures. The results obtained suggest that it would be advisable for doctors and their nurses who did not experience this disease to attend an education seminar focused on mumps, their symptoms, treatment, possible complications and anti-epidemic measures, with which the nursing care of mumps is related.

Partnership from the perspective of men and women
ELIAS, Annemarie
The present bachelor thesis focuses on partnerships between young adults both from a man's perspective and from the perspective of women. The aim of this study is to investigate the expectations of the partners involved in a relationship and to understand whether those expectations are based on gender stereotypes and roles. The theoretical part examines different attitudes and expectations of men and women in relationships. The practical part is based on qualitative research applying semi-structured interviews. Overall, the current study consisted of six samples, which were based on interviews with six volunteers (three pairs). Interviews were conducted with each partner separately. It was assumed that in the absence of a partner respondents would be more open and truthful. At first the information were processed under the pair's separately and subsequently compared with other pairs. As expected, differences were found between the expectations of men and women in relationships, which were based on gender roles.
